What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that's not always related to heat or exercise. You may sweat so much that it soaks through your clothes.Heavy sweating can disrupt your day and cause social anxiety and embarrassment.
Treatment with anti-wrinkle injections?
Botox (or similar) is often used in medical and cosmetic dermatology. It’s a neurotoxin prepared from the botulinum toxin that causes botulism. However, when dosed appropriately, Botox is entirely safe to use in cosmetic procedures and, most importantly, very efficient.
When used to smooth wrinkles it temporarily paralyzes muscles. It does the same thing when used to fight medical conditions like muscle spasms and migraines.
When used to stop overactive sweat glands that produce too much sweat, Botox blocks the nerve signals responsible for sweating. Among the many treatments advertised as a solution to excessive sweating, Botox continues to be the most effective long-term solution.
What does the treatment entail?
A full consultation will precede any treatment. A prescribed medication is injected evenly across the armpit. You may experience some discomfort but it's usually tolerated very well and numbing cream is used. You should notice an improvement in sweating within days and in 2 weeks full effect when you should return for a follow up consultation to ensure the whole area has been treated successfully.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hrs. Avoid rubbing the area. You may use your usual antiperspirant that day.
It's not recommended for patients who are suffering from a neurological conditions, so check with your GP or injector prior to your appointment if you have any past medical history.
